Sound

With nearly two decades experience in sound editing, mixing, foley, and location and field recording for film, TV, long-form audio and digital art/installation Nic has developed a fully holistic understanding of audio post production.

Following his first Sound Editor credit on acclaimed S4C drama Pen Talar at Soundworks, Cardiff, and subsequently several series of Sky's Stella,  Nic was hired for 2013 scandi-noir Hinterland, to help fulfil director Ed Thomas's vision of "nature as the largest character" through his field recording and sound editing of the wild soundscapes of west Wales and for which he, along with the team, picked up a BAFTA nomination for Best Sound.

 

Nic later moved into documentary and natural history film where he merged his work with his lifelong interest in the natural world, carrying out full sound editing on many of the brilliant, and often ground-breaking, natural history shows Bristol is known for, and many extraordinary documentary features by directors such as Alex Parkinson and Nicholas Brown. 

 

In doing so he's been part of Emmy award-winning and Jackson Wild and RTS-nominated teams including those led by renowned re-recording mixer Andrew Wilson and leading facilities such as Wounded Buffalo and The Farm (alongside Joe Siddons).


His nature and urban spatial sound recordings in the ecoregions of Europe and beyond provide the basis for his sound editing work and also form the Fleeting Sound series of sound effect libraries.

 

Nic has most recently been working with activist and performance artist Liz Crow; on the forthcoming documentary feature The Solway, and on his 7th series of the hugely popular Death in Paradise, for which he is a proud part of the team at Company 3, who make the sun shine and wildlife sing on Saint Marie.

Nic is a member of AMPS and Wildscreen Network, and enjoys working with and supporting students at the University of the West of England where he is associate lecturer in sound design and post production.
